San Xavier Mission del Bac
Mission San Xavier del Bac located near Tucson, Arizona, was originally founded by Jesuit priest, Father Kino, in 1692. The current structure was completed in 1797, and continues to serve the Tohono O'odham people as Catholic church. The name of the mission comes from the Tohono O'odham word bac, meaning "place where the water appears, " due to a nearby spring from underground Santa Cruz River.
